PPI = √(w² + h²) ÷ diagonal. Higher PPI = sharper text; at the same resolution a larger screen has lower density. For 27″+ gaming, 1440p (~109 PPI) to 4K (~163 PPI) are common.
Why PPI matters

Scenario: you are deciding between a 27″ 1440p and a 32″ 1440p monitor, or wondering whether 1080p is still sharp on a 24″ screen. PPI is the comparison metric.

Example: 1080p on 24″ ≈ 92 PPI (standard); 1440p on 27″ ≈ 109 PPI (the gaming sweet spot); 4K on 27″ ≈ 163 PPI; 4K on 32″ ≈ 140 PPI. Above ~200 PPI (retina-class phones/tablets) individual pixels are invisible at typical viewing distance.

Boundaries: PPI is geometry — resolution and size alone — not color accuracy or panel quality. At the same resolution, a smaller screen is denser but smaller; scaling (e.g., 125–150% in Windows) trades sharpness for usable UI size.
