The i9-14900K dwarfs the Ryzen 9 5950X in both gaming and productivity and runs on a current platform — but it carries the 13th/14th-Gen instability history (keep the BIOS on 0x12B+ and Intel Default Settings) and draws enormous power. The 5950X is on dead-end AM4 and is far less efficient, but if you already own that socket it is still a strong 16-core chip. New build with heavy productivity and you accept the Intel caveats → 14900K; staying on an existing AM4 system → 5950X. For gaming, neither is the best choice over a 7800X3D.
